You know I talk to people daily who have gone through some sort of tragedy in there lives and it never ceases to amaze me how hard we are not only on ourselves but on others as well.
In a conversation with my boss, we were talking about foundations and how he had requested that someone come out and look at his to make sure that the structure was sound since he was noticing small cracks in his ceiling and walls and even in his floor. These weren't huge cracks, in fact, the cracks really looked more like a small line had been drawn where they were. After the inspection the guy told him that they were just small cracks from the house settling but his foundation was intact, in fact it was a great foundation. Just put some spackle and paint on them and you shouldn't have any further problems.
In life, I think we look at things that have happened to us and believe that these situations have broken our foundation when in fact these are just minor set backs that we need to patch up and begin the healing process because our foundation is still strong. Christ Jesus is our foundation and our substance as a human being on this earth should not be determined by what other hurt individuals say or think about us, our substance should only be found in Him. A great lady once said, No one can make you feel inferior without your consent. Eleanor Roosevelt, 'This Is My Story,' 1937.
We are in charge of our own destiny because God has given us a free will. The question is, what are we going to do with the time that we have been given. There will always be pitfalls along the way, I have had and experienced many of my own throughout my life. However, the direction I take is my choosing. I can let the pitfalls in life define me or I can let them be learning moments that propel me into the person I should become. I choose to make a difference in the lives of those around me and to help people who have been enslaved by others, whether literally or metaphorically, become free.
You have a God given right to be free, a right to be you and destiny to be like Christ to set the captives free. If you were once enslaved by the will or opinions of man, let that be a learning experience. I have known that feeling all to well, but this one thing I do know, today I am a new person and old things have passed away and behold all things have become new. I choose to be the change that I want to see in this world. I choose to love others as God has commanded me. I choose to look in the mirror and change the person that I see there and not try to change others around me. I choose to see that the small cracks I have are not a symbol that I have totally failed but a symbol that I am learning and that there is hope for all of us if we will just love one another and quit destroying each other because of the imperfections we see in them that keeps us from dealing with our own issues.
Today, I choose to be like the one that I follow. Today I choose to be like Jesus!
Today, what will you choose?
